The Bangladesh team has been shuffling players a lot, says Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is eager for a permanent place in the 50-over setup. With Shakib Al Hasan absent from the Champions Trophy, Mehidy feels the pressure to fill the void left by the legendary all-rounder. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Mehidy discusses expectations, captaincy, and his preferred batting position.

As the team prepares for the Champions Trophy after eight years, Mehidy acknowledges the challenge but remains focused on the task at hand. He understands the responsibility that comes with replacing Shakib and is determined to give his best for the team. Despite the uncertainty in his batting position, Mehidy believes that settling in a specific spot will benefit both him and the team.

While Mehidy admits that luck plays a role in having a permanent batting position, he also takes responsibility for not refusing to experiment for the team’s sake. He feels confident in the number four position and believes it suits his playing style. Seeking guidance from experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy is ready to make a mark in the upcoming matches. I believe I have adjusted well in my role at number eight in ODIs, having played there for seven to eight years. I also had a brief stint at number five when Shakib bhai was absent. I have experience in finishing matches and have had successful partnerships at number eight. I am willing to adapt to any role assigned to me, as I cannot say ‘no’ easily. There is no competition between me and Najmul Hossain for the captaincy, as we have a strong bond and mutual respect. I anticipate challenges for spinners in the upcoming Champions Trophy, but my past experiences in Pakistan and Dubai will be beneficial. In ODIs, I approach bowling with a strategic mindset, understanding the situation and making decisions accordingly. Overall, I am prepared to face any challenges and contribute to the team’s success.
