Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made a new addition to their squad for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The franchise announced on Sunday that they have signed Madhya Pradesh spinner Shivam Shukla as a replacement for Rovman Powell, who declined to return to India for medical reasons after the IPL resumed on May 17. KKR, who have already been eliminated from the playoff race, have one remaining match where Shukla could potentially feature.

Shivam Shukla caught the attention of many with his impressive performance in the inaugural edition of the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, where he claimed 10 wickets, including a fifer, to win the purple cap. In the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he continued his good form by taking eight wickets in as many matches for Madhya Pradesh, including a four-wicket haul against Saurashtra.

Shukla’s talent did not go unnoticed as he was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad as a net-bowler for the season. He may have the opportunity to showcase his skills against his former team on May 25 in KKR’s final game of the season. With the addition of Shukla, KKR’s spin unit, which already includes Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, has been further strengthened.
