Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator and Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council Ambadas Danve alleged that betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches is taking place under the protection of Mumbai police. Danve claimed to have evidence in the form of phone call details from an application called ‘Lotus 24’ showing connections between individuals and Pakistani cricket players involved in betting. He also accused senior police officers of being complicit in the activities.

Danve raised concerns over rising crime statistics in Maharashtra, citing records that showed a significant increase in reported incidents. He criticized the government for allegedly withholding crime reports from previous years and pointed out the overcrowding in state prisons. The UBT leader highlighted the need for stricter prosecution of offenders to address the surge in criminal activities.

Additionally, Danve mentioned the significant financial frauds amounting to ₹51,000 crore recorded in Maharashtra and questioned the government’s efforts to prevent such occurrences. The Mumbai Police has not issued a statement regarding these allegations. Overall, Danve’s claims suggest a concerning trend of criminal activities and lack of enforcement measures in the state.
