He reached the milestone in just 40 balls, becoming the sixth fastest century scorer in IPL history. After completing his century, Sharma displayed a white paper with the message “This one is for the Orange Army,” referring to the SRH fanbase. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was intrigued by the message and approached Sharma to read it.
Sharma eventually scored 141 runs off 55 balls, leading SRH to a successful chase of 246 with Travis Head. This partnership of 171 runs set the tone for the historic chase, making it the second-highest successful chase in IPL history. Sharma’s innings also set records for the highest score by an SRH player and the highest by an Indian player in IPL history.
The aggressive batting display by Sharma and Head left Punjab Kings struggling, despite a strong performance by Shreyas Iyer earlier in the match. Overall, Sharma’s century and partnership with Head showcased a masterclass in chasing a challenging total, securing a crucial victory for SunRisers Hyderabad.
