Shardul Thakur, who was initially without an official IPL contract, found himself wearing the Purple Cap less than a week into IPL 2025. Despite going unsold at the mega auction in November, Thakur signed with English county side Essex before receiving a call from LSG’s mentor, Zaheer Khan, to join the franchise as an injury replacement. Since formally becoming a part of IPL 2025 on March 23, Thakur has impressed with six wickets from two matches, including a career-best performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Thakur’s aggressive bowling style and happy knack of picking up wickets have earned him praise and attention, culminating in a Player of the Match award. While his days as a Test cricketer may be behind him, Thakur remains determined to excel in domestic cricket and franchise action. With his recent success, Thakur continues to prove that he has what it takes to excel on the cricket field.
