Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami recently took a dig at former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar after the latter predicted a drop in Shami’s price at the upcoming IPL auction. Shami shared Manjrekar’s comments on social media and sarcastically referred to him as ‘Baba’ while advising him to save some of his knowledge for his own future.
Manjrekar had expressed concerns about Shami’s injury history impacting his value in the auction, citing the risk of a potential breakdown during the season. Shami, who had been sidelined due to injuries since 2023, made a successful comeback in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, taking four wickets in the first innings.
Despite being released by Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2025 auction due to his injury-forced absence in the previous season, Shami was a standout performer for the team in previous editions. He was the highest wicket-taker in the league in one season and played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign.
Shami’s impressive performances also earned him a spot in India’s ODI World Cup squad, where he emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker despite missing the opening matches. However, India fell short in the final against Australia.
With speculations about Shami’s potential inclusion in India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, his return to form and fitness have been closely monitored by fans and experts alike. Shami’s determination to overcome obstacles and deliver standout performances on the field continue to earn him praise and recognition in the cricketing world.
