Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag issued a warning to Mumbai Indians’ star player Rohit Sharma regarding his poor performance in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Sharma has only managed to score 56 runs in five innings at an average of 11.20, failing to surpass 20 runs in any innings this year. Since 2023, his IPL average stands at 24.39, the second lowest for an opener with a minimum of 25 innings. Sehwag expressed frustration at Sharma’s inability to achieve a 400-run season despite his talent and criticized his aggressive approach against new-ball bowlers in white-ball cricket. Sehwag suggested that it may be time for Sharma to retire and urged him to adopt a more measured approach while batting. He emphasized the need for someone in the Mumbai Indians’ dressing room to guide Sharma and help him improve his performance. Sehwag emphasized the importance of Sharma playing “normal cricket” and giving himself a chance to succeed in the IPL.
