Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, expressed his lingering disappointment over the team’s decision to release Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Buttler, who had been with the Royals since 2018, had a successful stint, scoring 3055 runs in 83 games at an average of 41.84 and a strike rate of 147.79. Samson described Buttler as one of his closest friends and lamented the loss of their partnership on the field. He expressed his wish to change the IPL retention rule, which requires players to be released every three years, as it severs the strong bonds built over the years.

Despite the departure of Buttler, Rajasthan Royals made headlines by signing 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the mega auction, making him the youngest cricketer to earn an IPL contract. Samson praised Suryavanshi’s confidence and power-hitting abilities during training, indicating that he is ready to make his mark in the IPL. Samson believes that with the right support and environment, Suryavanshi has the potential to play for India in the future.
