Rishabh Pant, the highest-paid player in IPL auction history, has been appointed as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2025 season. This announcement was made recently, with Pant being acquired by LSG co-owner Sanjiv Goenka for a record-breaking ₹27 crore during the mega auction last year.

Despite a lackluster performance in IPL 2024 with Delhi Capitals, Pant’s leadership skills are highly anticipated by Lucknow Super Giants as they aim for a successful season. Goenka expressed confidence in Pant, suggesting that he could potentially be one of the best IPL captains alongside legends like MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in the future.

Taking over the captaincy from KL Rahul, Pant is determined to make a strong comeback after facing challenges such as a near-fatal car accident in 2023 and a struggle in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He aims to regain form through upcoming white-ball series and the Champions Trophy before the IPL kicks off.

LSG has bolstered their squad with seven new players in the auction, including notable names like Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Aiden Markram, and Mitchell Marsh. Pant, with his impressive IPL track record of 3,284 runs in 111 matches, is expected to lead a star-studded lineup.

Pant’s standout season in 2018 saw him scoring 684 runs, including a memorable unbeaten 128 against Mumbai Indians. His consistency as a top performer is evident with three seasons surpassing 400 runs. With a fresh start and renewed energy, Pant aims to lead Lucknow Super Giants to a successful IPL campaign in 2025.
