Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during an IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians. This was the second offence for the team, leading to fines for the rest of the playing XI as well.
The IPL release stated that Pant’s team was penalized under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. In addition to Pant’s fine, the other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will also face fines of either INR six lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
Unfortunately for Lucknow Super Giants, they lost the match by 54 runs, marking their fifth defeat of the season. Despite chasing a target of 216 runs set by Mumbai Indians, LSG fell short and were bundled out for 161.
The penalties serve as a reminder to teams to adhere to the rules and regulations set by the IPL to maintain the integrity and pace of the game. Slow over-rates not only disrupt the flow of the match but also impact the overall experience for players and fans alike. Pant and his team will need to make adjustments to avoid further sanctions and focus on improving their performance on the field in future matches.
