Rishabh Pant has been named the captain of Lucknow Super Giants for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. The franchise was in need of a new leader after releasing K.L. Rahul before the mega auction in November 2024. Pant was acquired by LSG for a whopping Rs 27 crore at the auction, making him the most expensive player in the tournament’s history.
Working alongside head coach Justin Langer, Pant will lead a team that includes retained players like Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mayank Yadav. Pant had previously been with Delhi Capitals, where he was appointed captain in 2021 due to an injury to Shreyas Iyer. He continued in that role for the 2022 season before being released ahead of the auction.
Pant made a strong comeback in IPL 2024 after recovering from a car accident in December 2022. His performance earned him a spot in the T20 World Cup squad, where India emerged victorious. With 3,284 runs in 111 IPL matches, Pant brings experience and leadership to his new role as captain of Lucknow Super Giants.
Overall, Pant’s appointment as captain brings a mix of talent and leadership to LSG as they prepare for the upcoming IPL season starting on March 21.
