Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom company, announced a new plan that will allow subscribers to watch Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches on the newly merged JioHotstar streaming platform. The plan starts at ₹299 and is available to users who recharge their accounts with ₹299 or more. This move comes after reports that free streaming of IPL matches would no longer be offered on the old JioCinema platform. The new plan includes a 50-day trial of Reliance Jio’s broadband internet services to enhance home internet connectivity for high-speed sports streaming. The pricing strategy for IPL and other cricketing events by billionaire Mukesh Ambani is closely monitored, as the merged group has invested nearly $10 billion in media rights. The Reliance-Disney joint venture operates over 100 TV channels and streaming apps in India’s media and entertainment market. IPL is scheduled to take place from March 22 to May 25, making it one of the most popular sporting events in the country.
