IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has filed a petition in the Karnataka high court challenging a tribunal’s remarks that suggested the team’s responsibility in a stampede that resulted in the deaths of 11 people during their IPL victory celebrations near Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) stated that RCB failed to seek permission from the police before announcing the event on social media, leading to a gathering of the public. The tribunal also overturned the suspension order against police officials involved in the incident, citing the lack of time for proper arrangements. The Karnataka government’s decision to suspend IPS officers was deemed extreme by the high court, which questioned the necessity of such actions. The RCB’s move to challenge the tribunal’s findings comes amidst criticism of the police, government, and management for their handling of the event. The high court has set a hearing for July 9 to address the matter further.
