Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the new captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as the team aims to finally clinch the coveted title. The 31-year-old will be taking over the leadership from Faf du Plessis, who has moved to Delhi Capitals.
Virat Kohli, who served as the team’s captain for 143 matches between 2011 and 2023, is the longest-serving captain of RCB. Under his leadership, RCB made it to the final once in 2016 and reached the playoffs four times in 2015, 2016, 2020, and 2021. Despite winning the most number of matches (66) under Kohli’s captaincy, Anil Kumble holds the title of the most successful captain for RCB with a win/loss ratio of 1.363.
The franchise has had a total of seven captains since its inception in 2008. Apart from Kohli and Patidar, the list includes Faf du Plessis, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, and Shane Watson. Each captain has brought their own unique style of leadership to the team, contributing to the growth and development of RCB in the IPL.
As RCB gears up for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Rajat Patidar as he leads the team in their quest for IPL glory. With a talented squad and a new captain at the helm, RCB fans are hopeful that this could be their year to lift the IPL trophy.
