Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma put on a valiant effort for Mumbai Indians (MI) in a thrilling match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League 2025. Despite their impressive partnership, MI fell short of chasing down RCB’s total of 221 for five. RCB secured their first victory at the Wankhede Stadium since 2015, thanks to a timely ball-change rule introduced to counter the impact of dew.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Krunal Pandya played crucial roles in RCB’s victory by bowling accurately in the last few overs. RCB’s batters set up the game with a strong performance on a batting-friendly wicket, led by Virat Kohli’s fastest IPL fifty since 2018.
When Hardik joined Tilak in the middle, MI was in a tough position at 99 for four in 12 overs. However, their partnership gave MI hope as they approached the target. But RCB’s strategic decision to change the ball worked in their favor, leading to key wickets of Tilak and Hardik in the crucial overs.
Krunal’s effective use of his quicker ball helped RCB defend 19 runs in the final over, ultimately sealing the victory for his team. Despite the efforts of Hardik and Tilak, MI fell short by 12 runs in a closely contested match.
