Rajat Patidar has been named as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The announcement was made by Director of Cricket Mo Bobat and head coach Andy Flower, replacing Faf du Plessis who led the team in the past three seasons. Despite speculation that Virat Kohli would resume the captaincy, the management decided to entrust the role to Patidar instead. Patidar expressed excitement about learning from Kohli and his experience in cricket.
Having made his debut for India last year, Patidar’s T20 skills have shone through, leading Madhya Pradesh to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his IPL career with RCB, he has played 27 matches and scored 799 runs at an average of 34.74. The franchise has made significant additions to their squad in the mega auction, including Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Liam Livingstone, while also parting ways with players like Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj.
Patidar is looking forward to the challenge of leading RCB and aims to rely on his instincts while seeking guidance from experienced players. The team’s squad for IPL 2025 includes a mix of seasoned players and promising talent, with Patidar at the helm as captain.
