Royal Challengers Bengaluru, an Indian Premier League team, has named Rajat Patidar as its captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The announcement was made by RCB COO Rajesh Menon at an event in Bengaluru, attended by team director Mo Bobat, head coach Andy Flower, and Patidar himself. Patidar, a right-handed batter, joined RCB in 2021 and has played in 27 IPL matches, scoring 799 runs at an average of 34.74. In 2024, he led his state team, Madhya Pradesh, to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
RCB released Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, and Patidar was one of the three players retained by the team, along with Virat Kohli and Yash Dayal. Despite not going for prominent captaincy options like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer in the auction, RCB signed a total of 22 players. Key acquisitions included England all-rounder Liam Livingstone and Australian players Josh Hazlewood and Tim David.
The RCB squad for IPL 2025 includes batters such as Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Devdutt Padikkal, wicketkeepers Phil Salt and Jitesh Sharma, all-rounders Liam Livingstone, Krunal Pandya, and others, fast bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, spinners Suyash Sharma and Mohit Rathee, among others. The squad comprises a total of 22 players, including 8 overseas players.
