The ongoing legal battle between Rajasthan Royals (RR) majority owner Manoj Badale and former co-owner Raj Kundra has put the IPL franchise under scrutiny. Badale has accused Kundra of attempting to blackmail him by claiming he was defrauded out of his minority stake, breaching their 2019 settlement agreement. Badale’s lawyer, Adam Speker, alleged that Kundra threatened to report serious allegations to Indian authorities in a blackmail attempt. Kundra denied the claims and stated that the truth would be revealed in due course. Kundra, previously found guilty of betting on IPL games in 2015, had to forfeit his 11.7 percent stake. Badale’s Emerging Media Ventures, holding a 65 percent stake in RR, obtained an interim injunction against Kundra on May 30 to prevent him from making disparaging statements. Kundra’s lawyer confirmed his acceptance of the injunction, emphasizing that it did not imply any wrongdoing on his part. The legal dispute also involved Kundra contacting IPL founder Lalit Modi, making claims about being misled and defrauded.
