The upcoming IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 17 is at risk of being disrupted due to severe rains predicted in Bengaluru. If the game is washed out, RCB, currently second on the points table with 16 points from 11 matches, will gain a solitary point, moving them closer to qualification for the Playoff stage. However, KKR’s slim chances of making it through will be further diminished as they will be two points away from the top four with only one game left to play.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium is equipped with a top-notch drainage system, the SubAir system, which can prepare the ground for play just 15 minutes after rain stops, regardless of its intensity. This system, introduced in 2017 by SubAir Systems, can drain water from the ground at a rate of 10,000 litres per minute. Its efficiency was demonstrated during the 2023 IPL season when a full match was played between RCB and Gujarat Titans despite heavy rain.

KSCA vice president B.K. Sampath Kumar praised the SubAir system, stating that even a large puddle disappears in seconds, describing it as magical. The system, costing around Rs. 4.25 crore, utilizes approximately 4.5 kilometers of pipe length. The ICC delegation visiting the stadium ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup were highly impressed with the system’s capabilities.
