During the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked about his assessment of the pitch after the toss. The question was wrapped in reference to KKR’s ongoing row with the Eden curator over the home tract, leaving Rahane startled. When asked if he was happy with the pitch amid all the talk, Rahane admitted that the team got what they wanted, stating that the pitch looked good and would suit their spinners.
The KKR management had previously expressed displeasure with the pitch provided by the curator in the season opener, leading to criticism. The curator, Sujan Mukherjee, emphasized that according to BCCI guidelines, IPL teams and players should not have a say in pitch preparations. However, he expressed willingness to discuss with Rahane and the KKR management ahead of the match against SRH.
KKR made one change for the game, with Moeen Ali replacing Spencer Johnson. The playing XI for both teams were revealed, with Sunrisers Hyderabad remaining unchanged and Kolkata Knight Riders making the aforementioned change. Overall, Rahane’s response to the pitch question amidst the ongoing row with the curator added an interesting dynamic to the match at Eden Gardens.
