Punjab Kings (PBKS) have decided to part ways with Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction scheduled for December 16. Maxwell’s time with PBKS in IPL 2025 was plagued by a fractured finger that led to his early exit from the tournament. He struggled on the field, scoring only 48 runs in six innings and taking just four wickets.
In his last four appearances, Maxwell failed to reach double digits, with his highest score being 30 for the previous season’s runner-up. Despite his lackluster performance in IPL 2025, Maxwell had been acquired for Rs. 4.2 crore at the auction, marking his third stint with PBKS and his fourth IPL team overall.
Although Maxwell retired from ODIs in June, he showed better form in T20Is in 2025, scoring 171 runs at a strike rate of 169.30, with an unbeaten 62 against South Africa being a standout performance. Despite this, PBKS has chosen to release him from the team.
Maxwell had previously played for PBKS between 2014 and 2017 and then rejoined the team in 2021. The decision to release Maxwell comes as a surprise to some, given his recent T20I performances. The announcement was made on November 15, 2025, indicating PBKS’s intention to move on from the Australian all-rounder.
