In a historic match at New Chandigarh, Punjab Kings achieved a remarkable feat by defending the lowest total in the history of the Indian Premier League. Facing off against Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings managed to score just 111 runs in the first innings. Despite the seemingly low target, the Kings put up a strong bowling performance and bundled out the Knight Riders for a mere 95 runs, securing a 16-run victory.

This incredible display of bowling prowess saw Yuzvendra Chahal shine with his second-best IPL figures of four for 28 in his four overs. The previous record for defending the lowest total was held by Chennai Super Kings, who had defended 116 runs during the 2009 season.

The list of lowest totals successfully defended in IPL now includes Punjab Kings at the top with their 111 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in New Chandigarh in 2025. Following them are Chennai Super Kings with 116/9 against Kings XI Punjab in Durban in 2009, Sunrisers Hyderabad with 118 runs against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai in 2018, Kings XI Punjab with 119/8 against Mumbai Indians in Durban in 2009, and Sunrisers Hyderabad with 119/8 against Pune Warriors India in Pune in 2013.

This historic match will be remembered for Punjab Kings’ exceptional bowling performance and their ability to defend a low total against all odds, setting a new record in the IPL history books.
