South African players’ availability for the IPL playoffs and final is in question as Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad insists on having his players back with the national team by May 26, the original plan before the IPL was suspended due to the India-Pakistan conflict. Despite the league resuming on May 17 and the playoffs starting on May 29, the Proteas are gearing up for the World Test Championship final and a warm-up match against Zimbabwe from June 3 to 6.

With seven members of the team, including Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Tristan Stubbs, currently involved in the IPL, CSA has already announced the squad for the WTC final. Conrad and Enoch Nkwe, CSA’s director of national teams and high performance, have emphasized the importance of sticking to the original plan for WTC preparations. They have set May 26 as the deadline for the Test players to return to South Africa.

South Africa’s qualification for the WTC final was secured through a strong performance in the championship cycle, winning eight out of 12 matches. The team will gather in Arundel on May 31 for preparations ahead of the crucial final match against Australia.

Overall, the focus remains on prioritizing the WTC final, with the Proteas aiming to have their players back in time for the important clash.
