Prashant Veer made history at the IPL 2026 auction by becoming the most expensive uncapped player, with CSK acquiring him for a whopping Rs. 14.20 crore. Veer, initially listed at a base price of Rs. 30 lakh, attracted immediate interest from Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians before Chennai Super Kings entered the bidding war. The price quickly escalated to Rs. 4.2 crore with CSK leading, but Rajasthan Royals joined in and pushed it to Rs. 6 crore. CSK fought back, eventually securing Veer for Rs. 14.20 crore after a fierce battle with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The 20-year-old left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder was first noticed while playing for Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League. Veer’s impressive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy further solidified his potential, with CSK hoping to groom him as a successor to Ravindra Jadeja. In the 2025 UP T20 League, Veer scored 320 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 155.34, hitting 14 sixes.
Veer recently showcased his talent by playing six matches in seven days across the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Uttar Pradesh’s Under-23 fixtures, finishing with 112 runs at a strike rate of 170 and nine wickets at an economy of 6.76. Prior to Veer, pacer Rasikh Dar held the record for the most expensive uncapped player, signed by RCB for Rs. 6 crore. Avesh Khan was previously the highest uncapped signing at Rs. 10 crore by Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. The article was published on Dec 16, 2025.
