In their opening match of the 2025 Indian Premier League, Punjab Kings secured a narrow 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans. Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 97 off just 42 deliveries and making astute captaincy decisions on the field. Despite setting a strong target of 244 runs, the Titans appeared threatening in the middle overs with Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler in form. However, the introduction of impact substitute Vijaykumar Vyshak turned the tide in Punjab Kings’ favor. Vyshak’s economical bowling put the Titans under pressure, ultimately leaving them needing 27 runs off the final six balls. Head coach Ricky Ponting revealed that it was Iyer who suggested sending Vyshak as the impact substitute, a decision that proved crucial in securing the win. Vyshak, who previously played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was bought by PBKS for INR 1.80 crore. The Kings will face Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on April 1, looking to maintain their winning momentum after a successful start to the season.
