The Melbourne Stars have finalized their squad for the upcoming BBL season, with veteran fast bowler Peter Siddle returning to the club where he originally signed but never got the opportunity to play due to international commitments. Siddle, who is 40 years old, is set to make a comeback to the BBL after stints with the Renegades and the Strikers, where he won a title.
Despite only playing four games last season, Siddle was the most impactful bowler with 30 wickets, putting him just one wicket away from joining the 100-wicket club. His return to the Stars marks a full circle moment for him, as he was one of the original signings for the club.
Siddle expressed his excitement about rejoining the Stars, stating, “It’s great to come full circle and be back at the Stars after being one of the original signings. It’s always a privilege playing at the MCG and I’m really looking forward to helping out however I can with this group.” With 83 BBL games under his belt, Siddle will bring valuable experience and leadership to a Stars team that is yet to win a BBL title.
Stars general manager Blair Crouch praised Siddle’s addition to the squad, emphasizing his on-field abilities and off-field leadership. Crouch highlighted Siddle’s recent performances in the One Day Cup, where he has taken 10 wickets in 5 appearances, showcasing his continued high level of play. Siddle’s return to the Stars is expected to bolster the team’s chances in the upcoming BBL season.
