Perth Scorchers secured a six-wicket victory over Melbourne Stars in the BBL season-opener at Optus Stadium. Cooper Connolly’s crucial half-century, supported by Ashton Turner, helped the Scorchers chase down the target of 147 after a shaky start. Connolly, returning from injury, scored 64 while Turner remained unbeaten on 37. A late injury to Hilton Cartwright marred the Stars’ innings as he was stretchered off the field.

The Scorchers’ bowling attack, led by Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson, restricted the Stars to 146 for 9. Lance Morris impressed with his pace and spinners Ashton Agar and Connolly also chipped in with wickets. Marcus Stoinis, leading the Stars for the first time, made 37 before being run out in a mix-up with Tom Curran, who scored a quick 37.

The win marked the seventh consecutive victory for the Scorchers over the Stars, delighting the record crowd at the season-opener. Despite missing key players, the Scorchers showcased their depth and resilience to start the BBL season on a high note.
