The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) faced disappointment as their expectations for the sale of international media rights were not met. The offers received fell short of the anticipated value, highlighting the challenges the board faces in securing favorable deals for its media rights.
Initially, the PCB set a minimum bid price of $21 million for a three-year agreement. However, the highest bid received was only $7.8 million from Sports Five, with a Pakistani company bidding $4.1 million and Willow offering $2.25 million. Despite re-auctioning the rights and receiving a higher bid from the Pakistani company, the PCB rejected it as it still fell significantly below their expectations.
In a subsequent tender for home series against New Zealand and women’s series against the West Indies, Pakistani companies offered $99,000, Willow bid $75,000, and Sports Five offered $50,000. The PCB then re-auctioned the international rights for the period from 2024 to 2026, where the highest new bid was only half of the previously rejected highest bid.
Despite the efforts to secure favorable deals for media rights, the PCB continues to face challenges in meeting their expectations. The board’s struggle to achieve the desired value for their international media rights underscores the competitive nature of the market and the difficulties in securing lucrative deals for cricket broadcasting rights.
