Yuzvendra Chahal, the top leg-spinner currently out of the national team, made headlines as Punjab Kings splurged a whopping INR 18 crore to secure his services in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The 34-year-old, who is the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, confidently stated that he “deserves” the high price tag.

Punjab Kings outbid teams like SunRisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Chennai Super Kings to acquire Chahal in the ongoing IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Previously, Chahal was sold for INR 6.5 crore in the 2022 auction to Rajasthan Royals but was not retained by the franchise, leading him to enter the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore.

Expressing his excitement and gratitude, Chahal mentioned that he had a feeling he would join Punjab Kings but did not expect such a high price. He also expressed eagerness to work with head coach Ricky Ponting for the first time and learn from the World Cup-winning coach.

Chahal acknowledged the changing dynamics of T20 cricket, emphasizing the significance of boundaries and the impact player rule. With over 200 wickets in the IPL, he is considered a legend of the tournament. Punjab Kings also secured players like Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Nehal Wadhera on Day 1 of the mega auction.

In conclusion, Chahal’s record-breaking performance in the IPL has earned him a deserving spot with Punjab Kings, and he looks forward to contributing to the team’s success under the guidance of Ricky Ponting.
