The Pakistan Cricket Board has suspended all no-objection certificates for players who wish to participate in domestic T20 leagues outside of Pakistan, potentially impacting the upcoming Big Bash League season. NOCs are required for contracted players to compete in tournaments like the BBL, IPL, The Hundred, PSL, and other T20 franchise competitions. This decision could prevent Australian fans from seeing stars like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Muhammad Rizwan, and Haris Rauf in action during the BBL. The PCB’s COO, Sumair Ahmad Syed, notified players and agents of this new policy on September 29.

The reason for this decision is unclear, but it follows India’s similar restriction on contracted players participating in leagues other than the IPL. The timing of the announcement, after Pakistan’s loss to India in the Asia Cup final, adds to the uncertainty surrounding the ILT20 auction happening in the UAE. Sixteen Pakistani players are up for auction, but team owners are unsure if they will be able to play for their respective sides. This development could potentially impact the composition of teams in various T20 leagues, including the BBL, this season.
