Bevon Jacobs, an uncapped New Zealander, was shocked to wake up to a flood of messages congratulating him on being signed by Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 21-year-old batter was bought for 3 million Indian rupees ($35,595) at the IPL auction in Saudi Arabia, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in New Zealand. Jacobs, who has played List A and Twenty20 cricket for Auckland and Canterbury, described the news as a pleasant surprise.

Initially thinking it was a prank, Jacobs expressed gratitude for the opportunity and shared that he had made a last-minute decision to enter the auction. He woke up to numerous messages from his family overseas who were watching the auction live, confirming the news for him. Jacobs will be joining experienced IPL players Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner in Mumbai and is looking forward to learning from them and other top players in the league.

The upcoming 2025 IPL season will run from March 14 to May 25. Jacobs expressed excitement about the opportunity to play in one of the most prestigious T20 leagues in the world and is eager to make the most of this chance. It was a dream come true for the young cricketer, who will now have the chance to showcase his talent on a global stage.
