The Chennai Super Kings fans may witness the return of MS Dhoni as the captain in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals. Batting coach Michael Hussey hinted at this possibility, with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s participation uncertain due to an injury. Gaikwad sustained a hand injury from a delivery by Tushar Deshpande in the previous match against Rajasthan Royals.
Hussey mentioned that Gaikwad’s availability for the upcoming match would depend on his recovery. If Gaikwad is unable to play, a young wicketkeeper might lead the team. Dhoni, who last captained the team in the IPL 2023 final, has been instrumental in CSK’s success with five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles.
Among the current CSK squad, only Ravindra Jadeja has previously led the team. Ravichandran Ashwin and Sam Curran, who have captained other franchises, have also joined CSK. Despite a mixed start to the season, with two points from three matches and losses to RCB and RR after a win against MI, CSK remains hopeful for a turnaround under Dhoni’s leadership.
