MS Dhoni continues to make history in the Indian Premier League as he leads Chennai Super Kings as the oldest captain in the IPL. In the recent clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, Dhoni showcased his leadership skills once again after being announced as the CSK captain for the remainder of the season due to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury. This marks Dhoni’s return to captaincy since the final of IPL 2023, where he guided CSK to their fifth league title by defeating Gujarat Titans. Back then, Dhoni was 41 years and 326 days old, making him the oldest IPL captain at that time.
Now, in the current IPL 2025 season, Dhoni is 43 years and 278 days old, setting a new record for the oldest IPL captain. The previous record was held by Shane Warne, who was 41 years and 249 days old when he led Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians in 2011.
Among the top five oldest IPL captains before the CSK vs KKR game in IPL 2025, Dhoni holds the first position, followed by Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly.
Dhoni’s longevity and ability to lead a team at his age continue to inspire cricket fans worldwide, showcasing his unmatched experience and tactical brilliance on the field. Despite his age, Dhoni remains a pivotal figure in the IPL and a true legend of the game.
