Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stalwart MS Dhoni is gearing up for his highly anticipated return to competitive cricket in the upcoming 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After a 10-month hiatus, Dhoni will lead CSK against Mumbai Indians on March 23.
In a remarkable achievement, Dhoni is on the verge of becoming the first player to feature in 400 T20 matches, along with 350 ODIs and 50 Test matches during IPL 2025. Currently at 391 T20 caps, he only needs nine more appearances to reach this unprecedented milestone. His 400th T20 match is expected to take place against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, adding a special touch as it will be in front of his home crowd.
While some players have crossed the 400-T20 mark, none have displayed the longevity across all formats like Dhoni. Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik are the only other Indian cricketers to surpass 400 T20 appearances, with Rohit set to hit 450 caps early in IPL 2025. Karthik, with 412 T20s under his belt, continues to play franchise cricket, while Virat Kohli is on the cusp of his 400th T20 appearance at 399 caps.
