Chennai Super Kings suffered a setback in their IPL 2025 campaign as they were defeated by Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite snapping their losing streak with a win against Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai faltered once again, losing by nine wickets and remaining at the bottom of the points table. Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 70, chased down the target of 177 with ease. Suryakumar Yadav also played a crucial role in the victory with a match-winning hundred-run partnership.

After the match, Chennai captain MS Dhoni appeared visibly annoyed and had an animated chat with the umpire instead of engaging in the post-match handshake with the Mumbai players. Dhoni attributed the loss to the team’s failure to accelerate during the slog overs, resulting in a below-par score. He acknowledged that they missed the opportunity to capitalize on the middle overs, especially knowing that dew would come into play in the second innings.

Chennai will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings. Dhoni emphasized the importance of making the most of their opportunities and scoring more runs in order to compete effectively in the tournament.
