Brisbane Heat started their BBL title defense with a dominant eight-wicket victory over the Melbourne Stars at the MCG. Chasing a target of 162, Heat reached the total with ease, thanks to an unbeaten 78-run partnership between Jimmy Peirson (72) and Max Bryant (36). Peirson’s innings was particularly impressive as he posted his highest BBL score.
The Stars, missing key players due to injuries, struggled to make an impact in the field as Heat controlled the chase from the beginning. This loss leaves the Stars winless after their first two games in BBL 2024-25.
Captain Marcus Stoinis, playing his 100th game for the Stars, had a mixed outing, taking down Paul Walter but falling to an early dismissal during the power surge. Sam Harper top-scored for the Stars with 46 runs before being bowled by Matt Kuhnemann.
In better news for the Stars, Glenn Maxwell is set to return to the lineup for their upcoming match against Adelaide Strikers after recovering from a hamstring injury. Heat, on the other hand, will face Strikers at the Gabba in their next fixture.
The win sets a positive tone for Brisbane Heat as they look to continue their strong start to the BBL season. Follow Franchise Cricket for more BBL news.
