Lucknow Super Giants’ fast bowler Mayank Yadav is likely to miss the first half of the IPL 2025 season due to a lumbar stress injury. The 22-year-old, who impressed in the previous season, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Despite being retained for a whopping INR 11 crore, Mayank’s fitness clearance from the BCCI is still pending. If he meets the required parameters and increases his workload gradually, he may be able to join the team in the latter half of the tournament.
Mayank sustained the injury after his debut for India in the T20I series against Bangladesh last year. His impressive performances in the IPL led to his inclusion in the fast-bowling contracts and subsequently making his national team debut. The new LSG team director, Zaheer Khan, emphasized the importance of ensuring Mayank’s fitness at 150% before his return to the field.
The IPL 2025 season is set to commence on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match. LSG, led by Rishabh Pant, will kick off their campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam. The squad includes notable players like Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, and Avesh Khan among others.
