Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar recently compared Glenn Maxwell’s inconsistent performance in the IPL to Halley’s Comet, stating that Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. Despite scoring 30 runs against Rajasthan Royals, Maxwell failed to take Punjab Kings over the line in their first match of the season. He came in to bat in the 7th over and alongside Nehal Wadhera, built an 88-run partnership. However, the rest of the Punjab batters could not contribute effectively, resulting in a total of only 155-9. Maxwell’s dismissal by Theekshana and Wadhera’s wicket by Hasaranga derailed the chase. Maxwell, who has had three seasons with 400 or more runs in his IPL career, struggled to accelerate when needed. Navjot Singh Sidhu, also present in the commentary box, suggested that Maxwell plays one good match in 25 games. Despite his potential, Maxwell’s inconsistency remains a concern for Punjab Kings.
