The Indian Premier League (IPL) will host its auction for the 2026 season in Abu Dhabi on December 16, but it will be missing some key players who have been stars in the league for the past decade.

Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder, has decided not to enter the auction for IPL 2026, marking the end of his successful stint in the league. Moeen Ali, the former England all-rounder, will also be absent from the IPL as he will be playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next season. Faf du Plessis, the former South Africa captain, has chosen to participate in the PSL instead of the IPL in 2026.

Andre Russell, the West Indies all-rounder, has announced his retirement from the IPL ahead of the upcoming auction, concluding his 12-season journey in the league. Indian off-spinner R Ashwin had previously announced his retirement from the IPL in August, following his retirement from international cricket.

These players have been integral to the IPL over the years, but fans will have to bid farewell to them as they move on to different opportunities. The auction on December 16 will see new talent coming in to fill the void left by these seasoned veterans.
