England opener Ben Duckett has been selected as the No. 1 pick in the Melbourne Stars for the upcoming Big Bash League season. Currently playing for England in the Test series against Sri Lanka, Duckett was the first player chosen in the overseas player draft. The Stars secured him on a platinum contract. The Melbourne Renegades tried to snatch England batter James Vince from the Sydney Sixers, but the Sixers retained him. Instead, the Renegades signed Perth Scorchers’ Laurie Evans, who was not retained by his previous club. Duckett, a left-handed batsman, is a valuable addition to the Stars after his impressive performances. Additionally, the Sydney Sixers retained England spinner Sophie Ecclestone as their No. 1 pick in the WBBL overseas player draft. The Sixers will have a strong squad with Ecclestone, New Zealand leg-spinner Amelia Kerr, and Australian all-rounder Ash Gardner. The draft also saw other exciting signings, including West Indies veteran Deandra Dottin joining the Melbourne Renegades and Indian superstars Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues being picked by the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat, respectively. Overall, the BBL and WBBL drafts have added depth and talent to the upcoming cricket season.
