MS Dhoni is set to make a comeback as captain of the Chennai Super Kings for their upcoming IPL home game against Delhi Capitals. This decision comes as regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is uncertain for the match after being hit on the arm during CSK’s recent close loss to Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.

Gaikwad has been leading the team since last season and guided them to a fifth-place finish in his debut season, narrowly missing out on the playoffs after a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final league game.

The last time MS Dhoni captained Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League was during the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. It was a thrilling match where Ravindra Jadeja’s heroics with a four and a six in the final two balls secured CSK’s fifth IPL title. Dhoni has led the franchise in 235 matches, captaining the team in all their championship-winning campaigns. Although he had passed on the captaincy to Jadeja before the 2022 season, a slow start to the competition led to the left-arm spinner returning the reins to his former captain.

It will be exciting to see Dhoni back in charge of the team and leading them in their upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals. Fans will be hoping for another successful stint under his leadership as they look to secure a victory in the IPL 2025 season.
