Matt Kuhnemann’s participation in the upcoming two-Test tour of Sri Lanka is in jeopardy after injuring his thumb while playing for Brisbane Heat. The left-arm offspinner sustained the injury to his non-bowling hand while attempting to field a straight drive off his own bowling. Teammate Marnus Labuschagne expressed concern for Kuhnemann’s condition, as he is set to fly out for a pre-Test training camp in Dubai. If Kuhnemann is unable to participate, allrounder Cooper Connolly could make a shock debut in his place. Other spinners like Corey Rocchiccioli, Tanveer Sangha, and Mitchell Swepson are also vying for a late call-up to the squad. Kuhnemann had a successful stint in Australia’s tour of India, claiming nine wickets in three Tests. Despite limited opportunities in Sheffield Shield, his move to Tasmania proved fruitful with 18 wickets in six games. Labuschagne, who is gearing up for the tour with strong performances, emphasized the importance of adaptability in subcontinental conditions.
