The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) requested permission for the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL trophy celebrations at Vidhan Soudha, as revealed in a letter sent to the state government. The KSCA emphasized that it facilitated approvals for the franchise, despite the recent tragedy of 11 deaths in a stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. KSCA officials clarified in the Karnataka High Court that gate and crowd management were not their responsibility.
The letter, dated June 3, stated that DNA Entertainment Networks would handle arrangements for the event at Vidhan Soudha if RCB won the IPL title. Although the celebrations at Vidhan Soudha went smoothly, chaos ensued outside the stadium after a social media invitation from RCB attracted a large crowd. Despite the cancellation of a planned victory parade, the internal function proceeded as planned.
KSCA defended itself in the High Court, stating that they were not liable for the incident as they only provided the venue and infrastructure, while RCB and DNA managed the event. The court granted a stay on coercive action against KSCA officials and requested cooperation in the investigation. A petition to quash the FIR will be reviewed on June 16, and the High Court has also taken suo motu cognizance of the incident, scheduling a hearing for June 10.
