Australian all-rounder Cameron Green made headlines at the IPL 2026 Auction by signing with Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping Rs. 25.20 crore, making him the third-most expensive player in IPL history and the most expensive overseas buy ever at an auction.

Initially, Kolkata Knight Riders faced competition from Rajasthan Royals, who dropped out once the bidding crossed Rs. 13 crore. Chennai Super Kings then entered the fray and drove the price up to over Rs. 20 crore. Eventually, KKR outbid CSK to secure Green for the record-breaking amount.

Green, 26, boasts an impressive IPL record, having scored 707 runs at a strike rate of 153.69 in his previous seasons with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with taking 16 wickets with his right-arm pace. Despite missing the 2025 season due to injury, Green confirmed that he will be fit to bowl in IPL 2026.

In a humorous twist, Green revealed that there was a misunderstanding with his manager who accidentally labeled him as a batter instead of an all-rounder. Green joked about the mix-up but assured fans that he will indeed be able to bowl in the upcoming season.

The news of Green’s record-breaking deal with Kolkata Knight Riders was published on December 16, 2025, marking a significant moment in IPL history.
