Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions, have been knocked out of the IPL 2025 race to the Playoffs after their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru was washed out at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This marks the fourth team to officially be eliminated from the tournament.

The match ended with both KKR (12 points in 13 games) and RCB (17 points in 12 games) sharing a point each as no balls were bowled due to the weather conditions. With only one more league game left for Kolkata, they can only maximum reach 14 points. This makes it impossible for them to surpass Mumbai Indians (14 points in 12 games) and Delhi Capitals (13 points in 11 games) who are yet to play each other.

Before the match, Kolkata needed to win both their remaining games and hope for other results to go in their favor. However, with their fate sealed, they will now play their last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Delhi.

The Ajinkya Rahane-led side will now focus on finishing their campaign on a high note, despite their early exit from the tournament. With their title defense now over, they will look to end the season on a positive note and regroup for the next season of the IPL.
