Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their poor form in the IPL 2025 season as they suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, this time against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Despite choosing to bat first on the advice of head coach Stephen Fleming, CSK could only manage a meager total of 103 for nine on a slow pitch at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
CSK’s struggles in the PowerPlay persisted as they were unable to score freely against KKR’s bowlers. Only a brief partnership between Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar provided some respite, but once Shankar was dismissed, the CSK batting line-up crumbled. Sunil Narine was the standout bowler for KKR, picking up three wickets for just 13 runs in his four-over spell.
In response, KKR openers Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine got off to a flying start, hitting four sixes in the first six overs. Despite losing de Kock early to CSK debutant Anshul Kamboj, Narine continued his aggressive approach and was eventually dismissed by Noor Ahmad. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Rinku Singh then guided KKR to an easy eight-wicket victory with 59 balls to spare.
The win boosted KKR’s Net Run Rate and helped them climb up the standings, while CSK found themselves at the bottom of the table with a new unwanted record.
