Anil Kumble, the former India captain, has advised the Kolkata Knight Riders to reconsider their batting strategy for the upcoming 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kumble suggests that Cameron Green should open the batting or play at No. 3 instead of being used as a finisher, as Kolkata already has strong depth in the lower middle order. Kumble believes that KKR did not utilize their resources effectively in the previous season and should focus on optimizing their lineup.

Kumble also mentions that Green’s role in the team should depend on where Ajinkya Rahane chooses to bat. He proposes that Sunil Narine could be moved down the order or used as a flexible player. Green, who has only opened once in his T20 career for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, has shown his capability at No. 3 with a century to his name. Kumble emphasizes the need for strategic positioning of players to maximize their potential and enhance the team’s overall performance.
