Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as the team mentor for Delhi Capitals for the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. Pietersen will be joining the support staff which includes Hemang Badani as head coach, Matthew Mott as assistant coach, Munaf Patel as bowling coach, and Venugopal Rao as director of cricket.

This will be Pietersen’s first coaching stint in the IPL, having last played in the league in 2016 for Rising Pune Supergiant. He has previously played for Delhi (then called Daredevils) and Royal Challengers Bangalore, and has also captained both franchises in 17 games.

Expressing his excitement, Pietersen shared on social media, “I’m so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi. I love the city, I love the fans, and I’ll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025!”

Delhi Capitals has made some significant signings to strengthen its batting lineup, including K.L. Rahul, Faf du Plessis, Harry Brook, and Ashutosh Sharma. They have also retained Jake Fraser-McGurk and added pacer Mitchell Starc during the 2025 IPL auction.

The IPL is set to kick off on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders facing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match at Eden Gardens. Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 24. After finishing sixth last season and missing out on a playoff spot, DC will be looking to make a strong comeback under the mentorship of Pietersen.
