A Shankar and ES Jairam have resigned from their positions as secretary and treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) following a stampede during RCB’s IPL trophy celebrations that resulted in the death of 11 people. In a joint statement, Shankar and Jairam stated that they submitted their resignations to the KSCA president due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that occurred. The KSCA officials had previously stated in the Karnataka High Court that gate and crowd management were not their responsibility, seeking permission to hold the celebrations at Vidhan Soudha. Despite a successful felicitation at Vidhan Soudha, chaos ensued outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium where a large crowd gathered following RCB’s social media invitation. The planned victory parade had to be canceled, but the internal function proceeded as scheduled. The resignations of Shankar and Jairam come as a response to the tragic events that unfolded during the celebrations.
