The High Court of Karnataka ordered the release on bail of four representatives of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL) and DNA Networks Pvt. Ltd. who were arrested in connection with the June 4 stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The representatives included Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue at RCSPL; Sunil Mathew, Director; Kiran Kumar, Event Manager of DNA; and Shamant N.P. Mavinakere, a freelance service provider for DNA. RCSPL owns the RCB cricket team, while DNA is their event management firm. The Court imposed conditions for their release on bail.

The petitioners argued that they were arrested solely based on the Chief Minister’s orders without any investigation or evidence linking them to the stampede that led to 11 deaths. They also claimed that the police did not have jurisdiction to investigate or arrest them in this case. The State government defended the arrests, stating that proper legal procedures were followed.

However, the government did not address the court’s query about whether the Chief Minister had publicly stated that he ordered the arrests. The government maintained that the arrests were made on the CM’s orders, which they believed was not relevant to the legality of the arrests. The specifics of the court’s order are yet to be released.
